Men and women typically store fat in different places. Men tend to store the majority of their fat in their stomach while women tend to store most of their fat in their hips and the back of their arms. Fat goes where there is already fat, as an adult you don’t make more fat cells, they just get bigger.
To combat this, we use resistance machines for legs, do a million sit-ups, and ten thousand triceps extensions. That all sounds great until we look at our problem areas and realize that they don’t seem any different.
Here’s the truth, you cannot spot train fat; meaning you can not control where in your body fat is going to leave.
I don’t say this to discourage you, but rather to inform you. Let me ask you this “if your waist is 38 inches around and then you do a million sit-ups making the abdominal muscles bigger but have not burned the fat off from that area what is going to happen?” It is going to get bigger right?
There is no quick way to get rid of stubborn fat, eating a healthy and low-calorie diet, and exercise is the way to do it. You are going to burn more fat during cardio, but resistance training causes your body to burn more calories at rest for up to 48 hours after you’ve finished your workout, this is called EPOC (Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption). Mix full body resistance in with your cardio and before you know it you’ll see your body transforming. Now go get after it!
